Anti-Black Racism Action Plan

The City of Pickering is developing an Anti-Black Racism Action Plan to guide future work by the Pickering Anti-Black Racism Taskforce in addressing anti-Black racism.

The PABRT was established in 2020 and works to:

  • support community advocacy and civic engagement
  • build partnerships with local organizations and networks
  • lead and support initiatives that raise awareness and promote inclusion

We are seeking input from community members, organizations, service providers, and others with lived experience or community connections to better understand experiences and perceptions of anti-Black racism in Pickering, what is working well, where gaps exist, and priorities for future action.

Anti-Black racism refers to policies, practices, attitudes, behaviours, and systems that create or reinforce discrimination, inequities, and barriers for Black people and communities. It can be experienced at individual, institutional, and systemic levels, and may impact people’s access to services, opportunities, safety, belonging, and participation in civic life.

This survey is part of a broader engagement process to support the development of the Anti-Black Racism Action Plan. The Action Plan will help guide PABRT’s future work and inform the City of Pickering’s approach to addressing anti-Black racism through policies, programs, services, partnerships, and community engagement.

Your feedback will help shape recommendations related to:

  • policies and practices;
  • programs and services;
  • community engagement and partnerships;
  • education and awareness; and
  • future priorities for addressing anti-Black racism in Pickering.

Participation in this survey is completely voluntary. You may skip any question or stop the survey at any time.

Responses will be kept confidential and reported only in aggregate form. Your name or identifying information will not be used in any public reporting. While all reasonable steps will be taken to protect confidentiality, complete anonymity cannot be guaranteed.

At the end of the survey, participants will have the option to enter a prize draw. Entry into the prize draw is optional and is not required to complete the survey. Any contact information collected for the prize draw will be used only for administering the draw and will not be connected to survey responses.

The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Complete the survey by July 20, 2026.
