The City of Pickering is in the midst of updating our regulations for additional dwelling units to implement new Provincial legislation. Up to two additional dwelling units (ADUs) are now permitted on most residential properties.

The City is seeking feedback from Pickering homeowners who have a legal additional dwelling unit (in-house apartment) on their residential property. Data collected will help the City better understand how these units contribute to affordable housing, and how we can promote more of these units to be built in the future.

What are Additional Dwelling Units?

Additional Dwelling Units (also known as an ADUs, Second Units, accessory or basement apartments, secondary suites, carriage houses, laneway suites and in-law flats) are self-contained residential units with kitchen and bathroom facilities within dwellings or within accessory structures (for example, within a detached garage).
