Why is this facility needed?

    This project is guided by the City of Pickering's Cultural Strategic Plan, which sets the vision for the place of arts, culture, and heritage in the community, and identifies strategic direction for policy, investment, partnerships, and programs.

    This new facility will help connect people and communities by sharing and celebrating diverse pasts and bright future through programming and events, and allow the Museum to operate year-round, increasing access to these meaningful services.

    Where will the Dorsay Community & Heritage Centre be located?

    #1 marks the location of the Dorsay Community & Heritage Centre (previously referred to as the Pickering Heritage & Community Centre).

    When is construction going to begin?

    Construction began in February 2024.

    Will the Museum remain open during construction?

    During construction, the Pickering Museum Village, located on the lower site of the property, will remain open. Vehicular traffic can enter the site via Gate #3 from Greenwood Road.


    Will this new facility replace any of the Library facilities?

    The Greenwood Heritage Library will be a new Pickering Public Library location, in addition to existing library facilities. 

    The existing Central Library Local History Room will be moving up to this new location to become the brand new Local History Experience Centre.

    What is the total cost of the project?

    The total project cost is estimated to be $64,672,456. To support construction, the City received $12.5M in funding from Infrastructure Canada's Green & Inclusive Community Buildings Program, and $4M from the Department of Canadian Heritage's Canada Cultural Spaces Fund.
