The City of Pickering is committed to creating an equitable, diverse and inclusive community and strives to foster a sense of belonging, empowerment and respect among all community members. Following over two years of internal and external consultations through focus groups, surveys, interviews and intentional conversations, the City of Pickering is launching its first Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Strategy.

The EDI Strategy identifies five priority areas of focus and recommendations for action related to:

  1. Education and Awareness
  2. Structure and Resources
  3. Community Consultation and Engagement
  4. Policies, Practices and Programs
  5. Measurement and Accountability

By implementing an EDI Strategy, the City will have the framework to enhance existing government policies and practices for staff, residents, and the broader community. Staff will bring the Report to Council for approval in May 2024.

Community members are invited to review the Draft EDI Strategy below. Thank you to those who provided feedback (feedback form closed Monday, April 22, 2024).
