Gather & Grow Program Survey

The Miller Cole House at the Pickering Museum Village will undergo restoration work in 2024. As part of the project, museum staff will develop and install a new permanent (10 year) exhibit and program space in the building.

The aim of this exhibit is to investigate how food connects us as a community. It will look at the ways we grow, gather, prepare, cook and share food. The exhibit will include many different cultures and traditions.

The results of this survey will help us determine the types of programs and experiences to offer in the space.

We will outline 10 program ideas. Please indicate how likely you would be to book one of these programs.

A 45-minute kids' program where you learn about the history of pizza in Canada while harvesting ingredients from our garden. Bake and eat your own mini pizza on site. Price: $10.00-$15.00 per person.

An 8-week pre-registered Gather and Grown half day workshop for beginners (ages 16+). Themes could include culinary (bread baking, preserves) or make and take (soap, cosmetics, lotions). Price: $150.00-$200.00 per person.

A half-day "Make your Own Lunch" program for group visits (bus tours, groups, seniors, camps). In this program participants harvest ingredients from our gardens to create and cook a lunch to enjoy. Price: $15.00-$20.00 per person.

Fairy Tours: Locate and visit a series of whimsical fairy, elf and gnome homes throughout the village and forest. Learn about the history of these magical creatures. Create fairy-themed food using fresh produce from our garden. Price: $40.00-$50.00 per group of 6 people.

Ghost Tours: Addition of a culinary stop to our popular on-site ghost walk. Enjoy a signature apple cider made from apples from the museum's orchards. Price: $25.00-$35.00 per person.

Halloween Event: Trick or treat throughout the village, enjoy Halloween themed activities, and learn about Halloween themed celebrations of the past! Groups can create a pumpkin inspired treat to enjoy. Price: $40.00-$50.00 per group of 6 people.

Christmas Event: Addition of a new culinary stop to our Christmas event. Enjoy a signature beverage or bake and decorate a cookie to enjoy. Price: $40.00-$50.00 per group of 6 people.

Birthday Parties: 60-minute program that includes games, activities and baking a pizza lunch to enjoy on site. Then spend 1 hour in our party space to open presents and eat cake. Price: $200.00-$225.00 per 3 adults and up to 16 children.

A 45-minute nature craft for kids' program. Children explore the gardens and collect items to make a themed craft. Price: $10.00-$15.00 per person.
