What is the Claremont Library Extended Access Project?

Pickering Public Library is engaging in a pilot project to provide Extended Access to Claremont Library. Claremont Library currently has limited open hours in comparison to our larger library locations; Extended Access means that members of the community will be able to use the Claremont Library beyond the regular open hours. This pilot project explores self-service features enhanced by technology and remote communication to our staff at our other library locations. Extended Access technology has been successfully deployed in several rural and/or more secluded libraries across Canada, adding valuable additional access hours to meet the evolving needs of the community. Staff will continue to be available during regular Claremont Library open hours while self-serve options will be available during extended access hours.

The Claremont Extended Access pilot project will include the following library upgrades:

  • Installation of 1 library card reader scanner/control panel
  • Installation of 1 self-checkout machine
  • Installation of interior security cameras
  • Installation of 2 additional public computers
  • 1 public telephone that connects clients at Claremont Library to staff at the Central Library
