I first met Ian in 1986 where I was asked to develop the software on one of his IVI POS terminals. After that we had cross path many times and worked on projects in many occasions. We eventually ended up living on the same street in Pickering on Fairport Road. Quite often he would drop by and we would chat on different things. He was always very positive. When he decided to run for Pickering City Council for Ward 2, my wife Cindy helped him in developing the website for his campaign as we knew he would be a perfect Councillor. He was a man of honesty and integrity. It came as a complete shock when I learned of his passing. My deepest condolences to Amy and family. RIP Ian. You will be missed.

To Ian my long time and good friend RIP
Ian was a character and a first class laugh we both immigrated to Canada, I was later in 1974.
We met in Management Consulting and worked for the same company. Later on Ian had an idea and business opportunity, giving me the opportunity to assist in the formation and early nurturing of the then new team and as a result he founded IVI International Verifact Inc in Toronto - the company grew way beyond any dreams and the rest is history. I moved to Asia and only recently made contact with Ian and Amy and that was the best gift after so many years.
It was brilliant to know my friend again and even though he was ill he still had that twinkle in his eyes a Scottish Twinkle at that.
Cheers Ian and we will meet again in a far happier place and have a dram together
I send my deep condolences to Amy and his two sons
There goes a good friend

I first met Ian in the 2010 Municipal Election, he was a great champion for all he fought for and believed in.
Through his terms in office as Ward 2 Councillor he never wavered from taking care of the communities interests. He never minced words and you always knew where you stood with him. Truly genuine and forthright with whomever he spoke with. I will truly miss him and all he stood for. He was one of a kind and a true friend. With his quick wit and tackling anything that came his way head on, without hesitation. My deepest condolences to Ian's family, until we meet again rest in peace Ian Cumming.

We will miss you at the Pickering Public Library. You were an advocate for the Library through your work on the Library Board. Thanks for your great sense of humour which kept us all laughing. Hopefully, you find a Library up in heaven full of wonderful stories to read and no James Patterson in sight!
