Pickering Forward - Agricultural and Rural Areas Online Survey

This survey focuses on the City’s Agricultural and Rural Areas. Feedback received will inform how the City will ensure that the agricultural sector and rural settlements are protected as Pickering grows, while providing the ability to meet the evolving needs of residents. Questions will gather input on what land uses should be permitted in agricultural areas, how to enhance and protect hamlets and rural settlement areas, and mitigate potential impacts of anticipated urban growth on these areas.

A summary of the survey results will be shared publicly; however, all individual responses will be kept confidential. All questions are optional, and the survey should take about 15 minutes to complete.

Introduction

The City of Pickering is updating its Official Plan, the City’s long-range, comprehensive planning document that guides land use decision-making in the City. An Official Plan addresses issues such as:

  • Where new housing, industry, offices and shops will be located.
  • What services will be needed, such as roads, watermains, sewers, parks and schools.
  • How to protect what is important, such as the natural environment and cultural heritage.
  • When, where, and in what order the community will grow.
  • Where, and how the City will invest in community improvement initiatives.
