additional requirements to maintain and secure vacant properties
new provisions protecting designated heritage properties
regulate the storage of debris in open carports and structures
requirements to maintain security in multi-tenanted properties
additional provisions for exterior lighting, swimming pools, elevators
introduction of fees for follow-up inspections where there is a failure to comply
Enforcement of By-law
The Property Standards By-law is enforced on a complaint basis, generally relating to the property exterior, with interior provisions enforced mainly through the landlord-tenant process.
The owner of a property is responsible for compliance with the By-law. Failure to comply with a Property Standards Order may lead to the City completing the work and placing the costs on the property’s tax bill.
