The Brougham Cemetery is a small community cemetery dating back to the mid 1800s that is run by a small group of volunteers. The derecho on May 21, 2022 blew over or broke most of the trees bordering the south side of the cemetery. The Cemetery approached Dutchmaster Nurseries, a long time local wholesaler of trees and manufacturer of nursery equipment, to see what they could do to help. Our hope was that they could give us a discount. Instead, Dutchmaster Nurseries generously donated trees and planted them. This was invaluable as the Cemetery has a very limited budget and... March Winter Storm - Helpful Neighbour

by City of Pickering Customer Care Center, about 1 year ago

Kester has been nominated for being an outstanding neighbour during the 40 cm Winter Event which occurred on March 3rd and 4th, 2023.

Kester assisted his neighbours clear the snow on their sidewalks and driveways, as well as the windrows deposited by the plows. Kester assisted with clearing more than 14 properties on his street.

It was noted that Kester continued to visit additional properties, owned by his elderly family members, once his street was completed.

The nominator, Sejal, is very grateful to have such a helpful neighbour.

    Very Helpful Neighbors.

by santosh_u, about 2 years ago

Cathy and Don have been very friendly and helpful neighbors.

they greet us each time we pass by them and not to mention when we needed someone to provide reference for us they both where very helpful. They always are very kind to us.

I am very happy to call them our neighbor because i am an immigrant to Canada and finding people who are friendly and supportive is very rare. I am glad we made the decision to move to Pickering.

    Best Neighbor EVER - TINA

by katcheung, almost 3 years ago

Tina who has been our neighbor in the past 5 years, has been giving her time and effort to maintain our gardens beautifully in every summer! She’s not only good at gardening, but also being very handy for repairing and building furniture. And she would sometimes volunteer to doggie sitting our dog!

As I cannot deal with the plants at the front/back yards due to my allergies and later had a baby…I just cannot give out enough time to take care the lawn. Tina, she approached at me one day and told me that she can take care the lawn... Continue reading

It can all start with a simple hello

My neighbour, Sam, is a young kid - maybe around 20. He has a lot going on in his life and plenty of distractions. This doesn't stop him from taking the time to ask after/check in on one of the more elderly gentlemen on our street. I know this may not seem like a huge deal, but loneliness kills, and the days can be long for someone who is older, lives alone and doesn't have much social interaction. Although Sam's life is full, he makes time to give this gentleman his attention and I have witnessed the positive effects. I... Continue reading
