Consultation has concluded

Mayor Ryan recently announced that after a 28-year career in municipal politics, he plans to officially retire at the end of this term of office.

Please join us in celebrating Mayor Ryan with your best wishes, fondest memories, and unique shared histories.

Tuesday, September 20 marked Mayor Ryan's last Meeting of Council. He was joined by family, friends, colleagues, and community members, who paid tribute to him, and the exciting and dramatic legacy that he leaves behind. When he retires at the end of this term, Mayor Ryan will be Pickering’s longest-serving Mayor, and tonight, Council Chambers was heavy with emotion as we reflected on his journey, and shared our best wishes, fondest memories, and unique shared histories.     Congratulations & Best Wishes to You & Anne in the next Chapter. Your entry into the Pickering political scene started in 1994 when you successfully took over from me as Ward I Councilor and grew from there to long serving Mayor. All-the-very-best.

    Thank you for your leadership and strength of character while promoting our city to investors and planning for our future. When we moved to Pickering, I had no idea that I would be so informed in municipal politics and affairs. Thanks for promoting community engagement and professionally responding to controversial issues. I'm sure it wasn't an easy job managing all of our families' interests! Now you can enjoy a well deserved retirement, responsible now just for your own family who I am sure are so proud of you. Congratulations Mayor Ryan.

    It is with sadness , knowing of your retirement but as I reflect back on the many years I have known you and Anne, I applaud you for the wonderful job you have done for our beautiful City.
