Pickering of Past and Present

In the 1820s, Claremont was originally called Noble’s Corners, named after an early settled merchant Thomas Noble. With the establishment of the post office, the name was changed to Claremont. Artist icon Tom Thomson, an early inspiration for the Group of Seven, was born here in 1877.
