Survey and Map Tool
Share your thoughts on traffic calming across the City. The survey and map tool are available until September 30, 2026.
In 2003 the City established a Traffic Calming Policy as part of the “Safer Streets Traffic Management Strategy”. The Traffic Calming Policy is used to assist City staff with the management of requests for traffic calming measures. The purpose of this project is to update the Traffic Calming Policy based on industry best practices and guidelines and establish a process to proactively implement traffic calming in new subdivisions.
The new Neighbourhood Traffic Calming Measures Guidelines that will be developed through this project will set out:
a transparent, standardized process for assessing and responding to citizen requests for traffic calming
the method and criteria to identify and prioritize locations for traffic calming measures on local, collector and Type C Arterial roads under the jurisdiction of the City of Pickering
In Pickering, traffic calming measures may be considered on local, collector, and minor arterial roads. Traffic calming measures guidelines are not considered on major arterial roads, as these road classifications are intended to accommodate higher traffic volumes and support the efficient movement of people, vehicles, and goods. Traffic calming measures guidelines are also not considered on Regional Roads within the City, as these roads are under the jurisdiction of Durham Region.
Road Watch Program
Did you know that the City has a Road Watch Program? Road Watch is a community-based traffic safety program that allows residents to report dangerous or aggressive driving to the Durham Regional Police Service. The goal is to improve road safety through public participation, education, and enforcement. Learn more here: www.ajaxpickeringroadwatch.com

The City of Pickering is developing a Neighbourhood Traffic Calming Measures Guideline that will provide guidance on how community members can request traffic calming in their neighbourhood and how City staff will assess, prioritize, and evaluate these requests.
The purpose of this survey is to gather community feedback about traffic calming measures in our community and to help improve the process used to plan traffic calming projects.
The survey is open until Wednesday, September 30, 2026 and will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
